Now that you’ve got one or more Duck Ponds teeming with ducks, what else can you do with them? Well, it’s time to start breeding some brand new ones!

Every time you harvest the Duck Pond (once every 24 hours), you have a chance of getting a Yellow or Brown Duckling out of it in addition to the general coin reward for harvesting. The color of the Duckling is determined by what kind of ducks are in your Duck Pond, and the color also determines what kind of ducks can be bred from it. If you just use previous ducks, like the Ugly Duckling or White Swan, you’ll almost always get a Yellow Duckling. If you use a mix of duck types, you may get a Brown Duckling.
You have the option to share this Duckling on your feed:
After this your Duckling will be placed in the Gift Box. You can then choose to place the Duckling on your farm or straight into your Duck Pond at any time from the Gift Box:
Placing the Duckling on your farm will start the breeding process. If you put the Duckling in your Duck Pond, it will stay a Duckling only and the breeding process will be on hold. Once you place the Duckling, a new window will appear (in this case, let’s assume it’s a Yellow Duckling):
Breeding ducks is a factor of both time and friendship. You can see a line of seven (7) Ducks here: the rarity of the Ducks increases as you go from left to right. However, the time you have to breed that kind of duck decreases while the number of friends you need to breed that duck increases (as you go from left to right). Over time you lose the ability to breed certain ducks for that particular Duckling.
Sounds complex? First, here’s a chart to map it all out:
For a Yellow Duckling, in order to get the valuable Indian Runner Duck I need seven (7) neighbors to help me over the next twenty-four (24) hours (the timer starts as soon as I put the Duckling on the farm).
If I only manage to get the help of five (5) neighbors, the best duck I can breed with the Yellow Duckling is the Goldeneye Duck for the next seventy-two (72) hours. However, if I don’t breed the duck within that period, I lose the ability to get the Goldeneye Duck and then the best duck I can get is the Red Billed Duck. A day later if I still don’t breed a duck, the best duck I can get is the Scoter Duck.
Alternatively, let’s say I get a Brown Duckling but can only get two (2) neighbors to help me out. I can only breed the Red Billed Duck or the Goldeneye Duck for the next six (6) days. But if a day passes and four (4) more neighbors help me out, I can still breed the Wood Duck.
To grow the Duck, just find the one you want and click on “Choose” beneath its picture. You’ll get the new duck in your Gift Box:
You can get help from your neighbors by just clicking on the “Ask For Help” button and choosing which neighbors you want to ask. This sends a standard request through the Zynga Message Center (ZMC) which the recipient can easily respond to. You can also choose to speed up the growth process by paying Farm Cash, which will let you breed whatever duck you want that hasn’t already been expired (if pay Farm Cash after two days, you can only breed five of the seven duck types).
After seven days the duck will just grow into the last available duck (the Ugly Duckling for the Yellow Duckling for example); if you’d rather keep the duckling as is you can close the window and you’ll be asked if you just want to keep the Duckling the way it is permanently.

I got my first duckling,brown. In two hrs. there was an arrow over my duckling. I clicked, it said 7 neighbors had helped. I got to choose what I wanted it to transform to; I chose a Black Swan. I then got to share the swan and personally thank each friend who helped. This was too easy for the first time. I’m sure I will have trouble down the line.

By the Way. I started playing in Sept. 2010. I am now at level 81. I have never bought a FV Card nor do I have a grab bar of any kind. If any of my neighbors do; I politely ask them to get rid of it. If they do not, I remove them from my neighbor list. I have 74 neighbors who are at all different levels. We all play about the same. Sharing, gifting and giving things when needed. Like I said before. If you want great neighbors…be a great neighbor

this is the worst roll out of anything I a have ever seen so far. most of it is not working yet. I have on ducking right now that is sitting with me buying out the duckling with FV of 12 but I claim the duck because it will not let me even see the ducks period I sent a message to Zynga Support I’m sure I will here from just like I did when I was gifted a tree at one time. Oh wait I didn’t here from them then either. fun! This is the popular game that people play but unlike other games they have there is not live support like for say CafeWorld there is. It’s a shame that the game they make the most money off of they provide the worst support for. That just my opinion tonight!

already have problems
I have 2 ducklings ready to grow, 1 yellow and 1 brown. i click on one to grow it and the pop-up pops up BLANK WITHOUT A DUCK TO CHOOSE FROM. i am quickly running out of time to get the duck i want, and i can do anything with it

I am accepting ducklings and they are not showing up in my gift box…sooo what is new. SSDD!!!! I am very disappointed in the duck pond…. I have one duckling that i was able to get to grow up and none after that….. it sucks…..

Quickly got 7 friends to help me grow this little one into a cute DUCK, but when the screen comes up to pick the duck I want…..All my friends pictures are there but there isn’t any duck to pick from. When I click on the X it pop’s up another window/screen that ask me if I want to keep this guy as a chick?? Well, I have to just click cancel and it returns me to my farm and now I’ve got this arrow poiting over my duck that I can’t do anything about. Please Zynga…..try to get your program fixed so that ALL of us can have the same privileges. THANKS

I have the same trouble with my ducks also. What happens is nothing when I click on grow. Or ask for help. This computer is not a year old yet.

having the same problem and called billing support because I bought one out and they had not idea what to say and said try on line live support if you can and to keep refreshing been doing that for hour and no online live support is avaiable yet ! this is crap!

Having the same problem with the Duck Pond-it would be nice to be able to play along, seems most of my neighbors are having no problems. I’ve emailed Zynga, and sent a screen shot. They answered by giving me a few Urls to go to.. went to those urls.. they didn’t help – LOL At least the coins are good when selling the ducklings.

there will be plenty more ducks, even if you run out of time
It takes time to get the kinks out of the system, and I think for a game that only costs money if you choose to purchase extras, I think Zynga does a pretty great job. We aren’t entitled, though sometimes we act as though we are.

We are entitled to get out time and money’s worth. I don’t know about you but my Pc/ and Internet Browser weren’t given to me free, my time is valuable as well. When there is a glitch in a game that we can all play that is introduced by the gamers, I think they should work out the kinks before they release the game. I did have to actually pay FV cash to grow a duckling that needed (as per usually for about 5 ducklings 1 more person and for “some reason” couldn’t get the last person to reply, by no fault of their own) The only choice I eventually had was to keep it as a duckling an sell it for 1000 g. I could have just sold it from the get go and saved the gifting for other things.

wow first i couldnt even see the model farm, wich i still cant but now the clock is ticking away and i cant even trade in my duckling, will farmville ever fix this?

Hi I found that I could only place ONE duckling on my farm at the same time. If I placed more then one I had the same issue of a duck getting a blank screen. When I started leaving the extra ducklings in my gift box or pond the problem went away. If you make one of your ducklings stay small though do NOT move this one into the pond or you will have to do it again. It does not effect growing the next duckling if you chose to keep it small. I hope this helps!

What is the problem with growing the ducklings? I’ve only got 1 – my first and ONLY one, which did not come out of my duck pond (and haven’t gotten ANY from my own pond!) but I’ve got one ready to transform BUT the buttons to choose AND the grown ducks are not showing up in the pop-up box…in fact, it’s not even giving me the option to send a free duckling to any of my 7 friends who helped me!! And I’ve got so many ducklings in my gift box, I’ve lost count. I’m not about to place them until I get the current duckling transformed! What is with this game? The list of problems keeps getting longer – either from my friends/neighbors or myself…

have brown duck and seven friends have answered my help request BUT no finished ducks (pictures) appear on screen to choice from. When I close that box it asks me if I want to leave my ducking as a ducking permanently. What is the problem?

So glad to kno I am not the only one having issues with the darn ducks. The first 2 yellow and brown ducklings went smoothly . But in the last 3 days my ducks say 7 friends have helped, yet the duck images are blank and they will not give me a chance to grow/choose my duck or thank those that helped. I finally got bored and chose to keep a yellow duckling a duckling forever since it was not giving me any other options for two days. my others are justsitting there, already helped by 7 people, unable to do anything else. I am very irritated. Hope they fix these bugs soon–what a disaster!!!

I have exactly the same problem! I now have 3 ducks who have all been helped by 7 friends and I get the pictures of my neighbours, but the duck boxes remain blank!
